Problem Solving. Solve each problems

1. If it takes 600 feet of fence to enclose a rectangular lot that is 132 feet wide, then how deep (length) is the lot?
ANS: 168 ft
2. A piece of 16-gauge copper wire 42 cm long is bent into the shape of a rectangle whose width is twice its length. Find the dimensions of the rectangle.
ANS: L= 7 cm; W=14 cm  
3. A triangle has a perimeter of 50 inches. If 2 of its sides are equal and the third side is 5 inches more than the equal sides, what is the length of the third side?
ANS: 3rd side length = 20 inches  
4. If the height of a triangle is five inches less than the length of its base, and if the area of the triangle is 52 square inches, find the base and the height.
ANS: base= 13 inches; height=8 inches  
5. The area of a trapezoid is 300 sq inches. If the height is 20 inches and the lower base is 16 inches, then what is the length of the upper base?
ANS: upper base = 15 feet

6. The sum of three positive numbers is 33. The second number is 3 greater than the first and the third is 4 times the first. Find the three numbers.
ANS: 5, 8, 20
 7. Six years ago Jun was 4 times as old as Joan. In four years, he would be twice as old as Joan. How old are they now?
ANS: Joan = 11 yrs old now; Jun = 26 yrs old now
8. John is twice as old as his friend Peter. Peter is 5 years older than Alice. In 5 years, John will be three times as old as Alice. How old is Peter now?
ANS: Peter = 5 years old now
9. Lisa is 16 years younger than Kathy. If the sum of their ages is 30, how old is Lisa?
ANS: Lisa= 7 yrs old now
 10. You put $1000 into an investment yielding 6% annual interest; you left the money in for two years. How much interest do you get at the end of those two years.
ANS: interest = $120
